We say goodbye to our dear friend and Worshipful Brother, Neil E. Helwig (b. Jan 22nd, 1952), who has laid down his working tools and passed to the Celestial Lodge above on Sunday, Jan 9, 2022 at 2:20a.
WB Helwig leaves behind a legacy of scientific contributions in the field of Aquaponics as well as numerous patents held with the U.S. Patent Office.
Working strictly from behind the scenes, WB Helwig was considered to be a powerhouse in re-establishing Carmel Lodge back on the map in 2021. Working with the prior WM in 2020, his immense support and dedication to our Order ensured Carmel Lodge was back on track to receive the Grand Master’s Award, Certificate of Excellence under WB Wilfredo Geronimo (for year 2020). Under WB Helwig’s watch, Carmel #421 will again receive the Grand Master’s award for 2021.
While we are saddened by the loss of a great asset to Carmel Lodge, we are comforted knowing that WB Helwig is in his new place undertaking another role in the Universe, alongside the Great Architect. He will be dearly missed!
Due to the current pandemic, there are no current plans for a funeral or viewing at this time; however, a Celebration of Life will be determined during the summer months. In June 2022, the following plaque memorializing Past Master Neil Helwig (2021) was added to our updated lodge lounge and sitting area.
The plaque was donated by David Pencak, MM, Chaplain, Carmel #421.
